How Exercise Influences Hunger and Weight Loss

Recent research shows that 45 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous exercise in the morning may reduce food cravings, both immediately afterward and throughout the day.

Exercising first thing in the morning, especially if done on an empty stomach, has been shown to have a number of health benefits, including preventing weight gain and insulin resistance

Your choice of breakfast food may play a significant role in decreasing or heightening sensations of hunger afterward. Carbohydrate-rich breakfast foods can significantly increase hunger – especially if you are lean, with healthy insulin sensitivity

Previous research has revealed that exercise may also help control your body weight by altering hormones released by your gut after a meal

When exercising in a fasted state, it’s critical to eat a recovery meal within 30 minutes post-workout. This meal should NOT be skipped in the name of fasting. Fast-assimilating protein, such as whey, is ideal for brain and muscle recovery

Exercise & Children

According to a study done at the University of North Texas, having a healthy heart and lungs may be one of the most important factors for middle school students to excel in math and reading

The research is pouring in that regular exercise can improve test scores, IQ levels and task efficiency for kids and adults alike

Too much “screen time” in front of TVs, computers and video games can increase your child’s risk of emotional and behavioral difficulties, regardless of time spent exercising

Be a positive role model for your child by both limiting your family’s screen time while encouraging activities that boost physical fitness

Know What Foods You're Eating

You have probably been eating genetically modified foods for a decade and do not know it. For example, Ascorbic Acid in Vitamin C is made from corn syrup, mostly genetically modified.

As a health practitioner and nutritionist, I support Proposition 37 on the California Ballot which requires the labeling of genetically engineered foods (GMOs). This is not a perfect Proposition, but it is a first step in the right direction. If this proposition passes, you can better avoid genetically modified foods, if you wish.

GMOs have been banned from most of the European countries. Thus far, the effects of GMOs on health are not really understood. These products have already generated much controversy in US farm communities. I suggest you watch the following movies: Food Inc. and the Future of Food. There are also numerous other movies about this subject. You can Google movies about genetically modified foods to find others.

It is your right to have the power of choice over what you eat. A "YES" vote gives you this power of choice
