Don't Take Supplements

Now, this may sound like a funny statement, but you have to listen to this video to understand it.   The basic message is don't just try to  cover up symptoms, find the cause of the problem.

Often people try to "get more energy" or "sleep better" without actually addressing the reason that the person has these problems.  Take my example of the difference between different health care professionals addressing the problem when someone comes in saying they have insomnia.

The first way of addressing the issue and one which the medical doctor will do is give you a drug to force the body to sleep.  You will be prescribed Klonopin, Ambien, Lunesta, etc. etc.

The second way would be to substitute these drugs with herbal medications such as valerian root, melatonin, or such supplements as tart cherry, magnesium, etc. etc.  These are all designed to relax the body so it will sleep.

But, is the underlying reason for the sleep problem addressed.  It could be many things liver, thyroid, adrenal....... addressing the problem with supplements will result in the body actually balancing itself out so that sleep will come naturally.

There are many other examples.   Address the problem.

This hit home, I've even heard people tell me they have "insomnia" because they wake up during the night, they fall asleep right away, but....

But popular opinion and expert advice don’t always line up when it comes to your ZZZs. Here are 5 widespread sleep myths that could be causing you extra concern for nothing.

Vitamin B May Protect Against Alzheimer's

The reference talks about homocysteine being lowered in the body in the presence of vitamin B.  I was interested in forwarding this as homecysteine has also always been associated with heart disease and more.

Why?  The body needs cysteine.  It is vital to making Glutathione.
(Go to the link if you want to know more about Glutathione, the body's master anti-oxidant).

Homeocysteine is part of a reaction in the body and is supposed to convert to cysteine.  But it needs B vitamins to convert.   Thus the need for the B vitamins.

Here is what the article is about:

B vitamins may slow brain shrinkage by as much as seven-fold in brain regions specifically known to be most impacted by Alzheimer’s disease

High levels of the amino acid homocysteine are linked to brain shrinkage and an increased risk of Alzheimer’s; B vitamins are known to suppress homocysteine

Among participants taking high doses of folic acid and vitamins B6 and B12, blood levels of homocysteine were lowered as was the associated brain shrinkage – by up to 90 percent
