L-Carnitine & Cardiac
Health
L-carnitine significantly improves cardiac health in patients after a heart attack, according to a study published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings. A team of investigators systematically reviewed 13 controlled studies and found that the compound was associated with significant reduction in death from all causes and a highly significant reduction in ventricular arrhythmias and
angina attacks following a heart attack.
For the study, researchers reviewed 13 controlled trials in 3,629 patients, involving 250 deaths, 220 cases of new heart failure and 38 recurrent heart attacks, and found that L-carnitine was associated with:
Significant 27 percent reduction in all-cause mortality
Highly significant 65 percent reduction in ventricular arrhythmias
Significant 40 percent reduction in the development of angina
Reduction in infarct size

L-carnitine is not only beneficial for those who have suffered a heart attack, but it provides
other benefits as well.

benefits plus the combination of L-Carnitine and Alpha Lipoic Acid.

Alpha-Lipoic Acid & Neuropathy
Some research suggests that certain nerve diseases may occur as a result of free radical damage. Since alpha-lipoic acid can reach all parts of a nerve cell it can potentially protect nerve cells against further damage. This is the rationale behind studies on the potential benefits of alpha-lipoic acid for diabetic neuropathy.
Another group of nerve cells in diabetics, the autonomic nerves, which control the function of internal organs, may also become damaged. When this same phenomenon occurs in the heart, a condition known as cardiac autonomic neuropathy, it leads to irregularities of heart rhythm. There is some evidence that alpha-lipoic acid may be helpful for this condition.
