With Nerve Damage, you Need More than an Antioxidant
In the last several years, the number of articles written about neuropathy has grown and with this number the different "natural" remedies have grown.
A lot of talk about what herb to take is predictable. Herbs are used as medicines way before the pharmaceutical companies started creating laboratory drugs to address the symptoms of disease. And like the drugs, they will cover up the symptoms of disease. They don’t particularly address the problem, but make your feel better. They like the drugs have side effects, and interactions.
Taking away the herbs and drugs, what is the prevalent natural solution to neuropathy. It is anti-oxidants. Some proponents have latched onto the circulation problems of diabetics to propose that it is all circulation and all you have to do is somehow increase the blood flow and the neuropathy will go away.
Yes, anti-oxidants will help. In fact, the combination of alpha lipoic acid and acetyl l-carnitine will help the repair of the nerves which is neuropathy as it increases the body’s ability to produce energy in the cells.
But don’t let the confusions about neuropathy confuse you. In order to address an unhealthy nerve the body needs nutrients. The body needs to build healthy nerves.
In order to function and repair itself the body needs not only protein carbohydrates and fats, but it needs enzymes, vitamins and minerals. It needs them to build healthy cells from as early as conception. And the right nutrients are especially important when the body needs to replace injured or damaged cells. If it isn’t getting the right tools it can’t do that.
In order to build healthy nerve cells, the body needs B vitamins. B vitamins nourish the nerve cells. It addresses the unhealthy nerves and lets the nerves go about their job of communicating.

Food as Medicine — The Answer to the Mouting Health Crisis
While modern medicine successfully treats acute problems, it has nothing to offer for chronic conditions, as the solution for chronic health problems requires real food.
Real food is medicine. Processed food is poison, and there's no medicine that can undo the damage of processed food.
Two bulwarks against truth about health are the medical establishment, which doesn’t want to admit drugs cannot treat foundational causes of disease, and the food industry, which doesn't want you to know that processed foods are inherently unhealthy.
To improve public health, we need education about the core problem — the overabundance of processed food in our diet — plus implementation of healthier eating, both on a personal level and a societal level.
Food companies can make money selling real food. The primary hindrance is the subsidizing of junk food ingredients (sugar, corn, wheat or soy)

Inflammation: How Sensitivities Are Caused By Low Cortisol by Drs. Lam
Dr. Lam: Many people complain of nonspecific-type symptoms that can range from multiple chemical sensitivities, reactions to perfume and petroleum, to slow recovery. What is it all about?
Dr. Carrie: Well, this is just saying that your immune system is flaring up. Whether it’s causing more inflammation in your body, all these symptoms are crying out for help. Whether it’s your food or chemical sensitivities, these all have a very strong adrenal component. Right, Dr. Jeremy?
How Sensitivity Is Related to Cortisol
Dr. Jeremy: Yes, and actually, many of these sensitivities are because there is a release in histamine which is trying to fight these sensitivities.
Now, the body’s normal response is to put out cortisol, which is an anti-inflammatory hormone. But the weaker the adrenals, the more they increase the frequency of allergies because they can’t fight off the histamine release.
Dr. Lam: Yes. Now, these are not acute allergies that cause you to have anaphylactic shock. These are just like sensitivities that are subtle, but it kind of bugs you and it bothers you. So, you cannot eat the food that you want. You get discomforts, migraines, bowel aches that kind of move around the body. The body’s just not liking it.
Dr. Carrie: So, your body's immune system is acting up. And therefore, your adrenals want to put out more cortisol, which is the anti-inflammatory hormone. As it puts out more cortisol to try to put out the inflammation that your body is going through, your adrenals get tired over time, and this vicious cycle can lead to progressively worsening adrenal exhaustion.
Dr. Lam: So, for the short-term, you take a pause and learn that these are normal responses that your body is trying to use to whisper to you, “Hey, please help me with my adrenals.” Of course, long-term you want to do the right thing to help to boost the immune system and support it better. Once the adrenals get that support, then the body will then automatically help itself and then get stronger.
Dr. Carrie: Yes. So, some short-term things that you might be trying already are like omega-3 fatty acids, or turmeric or curcumin, even antihistaminic herbs like bromelain or quercetin. However, these herbs might not be helping. So, in the long run, you might actually feel your immune system and your inflammation getting worse.

The Best Vitamin C for Colds and Flu
With all this attention still on colds and flu, now is the time to continue building up your body’s defenses and nutritionally enhancing your immune system.
"The position with vitamin C and the common cold is becoming clear.
"Frequent, large nutritional doses can reduce the incidence of colds, their severity and duration.
"Once a cold has taken hold, treatment is much more demanding."
Excerpted from ASCORBATE The Science of Vitamin C
by Dr. Steve Hickey & Dr. Hillary Roberts
Camu camu is one of the highest known sources of natural vitamin C. Research indicates camu camu contains up to 56 times more vitamin C than a lemon and 50 times more vitamin C than an orange.
Most Camu Camu sold on the market today is sold as camu camu powder in bags, or in capsules or tablets. 20 percent of camu camu powder is actual vitamin C.
If you have 500 mg of camu camu powder in a capsule - you are only getting 100 mg of Vitamin C.
If there are 60 capsules in a bottle, then the total amount of Vitamin C you would get in that bottle is 6,000 mg.
Often these bottles are sold at around eighteen to twenty dollars a bottle.
